Motif Writing develops hemispheric specialization which means that one side of the brain is dominant and

allows students to think clearly and effectively. Hemispheric

Specialization should be developed by the age of seven.  Beautiful handwriting skills develop as a result of practicing Motif Writing. Teachers can tell when students have started their day with Motif Writing.

Mastering Manuscript and Cursive Handwriting – Students learn to print and write both alphabets neatly and quickly within two minutes. The organization of the letters also helps in developing dictionary skills which are essential in intermediate grades. If

manuscript and cursive writing skills are not mastered, students will find spelling, and story and essay writing tasks difficult because they are not able to multi-task effectively and are working at a cognitive (where they are focusing on one thing) rather than an associative (where they can do more than one thing) skill level.  This means they are easily exasperated and will say, “I can’t do it,” or, “I don’t want to do it!
